Kalimba is an African national musical instrument with ethnic characteristics. Kalimba has different names in different African countries, such as Kalimba, the Kenyan name for the instrument, Mbira in Zimbabwe, Likembe in Congo, and Sanza and Thumb Piano.
It is named for the thumbing of thin slices on the body of the instrument(mostly made of wood or bamboo, in modern development, metal). Traditional Kalimba uses gourds as resonators.
