The Sizes of Ukulele

- Mar 28, 2019 -

The size of ukulele can be divided into four types, from small to large:

S(Soprano) C(Concert)T(Tenor)B(Baritone)

So which size should we choose?

It depends on your own needs. What do you want to do with your ukulele? If you like to play a lot of solo content, the T-shaped ukulele is very suitable, because the T-shaped has more space and volume for you to use, more variety and more wider range, make your music more expressive.

If you are choosing your first ukulele, then S-shaped and C-shaped are more suitable for entry, because S-shaped and C-shaped are small and cheap to meet your experience with ukulele. Simple playing is also easy to get started. Soon after, you will probably have ukulele for each model. (If you love ukulele)

What is the size of the ukulele?

The size of the ukulele mentioned above does not depend on how big or how long it is, but on it: the length of the vibrating part of the string - between the bridge and the pillow, also known as the effective string long. Of course, this is more professional, just know about it.

The length of the effective chord length of each size of ukulele:

Soprano - 14" (and below)

Concert - 14 1/2 to 16 inches

Tenor - 16 to 18 inches

Baritone - 18" (and above)

However, these dimensions are not necessarily fixed. Some companies have different ukulele sizes.

Here are some less common sizes:

In short, this question still depends on personal preference. The larger the size, the wider the range, and the smaller the size, the more cute. It is recommended that girls can choose S, C as a starting point (cute), boys can choose C or T to get started (after all, the hand is big and crowded on S's piano). Of course, if you want to pursue a huge contrast with the ordinary guitar, let the little partner shocked, then choose S.
